CITICOLINE · The Novel Food Approved in the EU

Although approved and wide used in the United States since the late 80´s, Citicoline is from July, 1, 2014 a novel food approved within the European Union for certain purposes in food and nutrition. Classified in certain cases both as medicine and as food, Citicoline is related to brain and liver health as well as lipid homocysteine metabolism. In certain countries it´s being accepted as neuroprotective agent also. Now it´s permitted with a maximum dosage of 250 mg. per serving up to a maximum intake of 1.000 mg/day. Citicoline can be applied to beverages, breakfast cereals, chewing gum, pastas, hard candy, dairy products, fruit juices and soft candy.
